Steinbacher, Goodall & Yurchak hosted Leadership Lycoming’s Class of 2020 at our Elder & Special Needs Resource Center. Julieanne E. Steinbacher, CELA*, spoke to the class (left) on how they can become better leaders by chunking their time, energy, and presence.
On Oct. 15, Linda Hess presented Choosing a Medicare Plan That’s Right for YOU. This presentation was provided by the STEP Office of Aging APPRISE Program. Attendees learned key factors of choosing a Medicare Plan including understanding Medicare options, making the most of prescription coverage, open and late enrollment, and Medi-gap policies. This seminar took the mystery out of choosing a Medicare plan.
Landon Hodges, Esq., outlined the basics of estate planning during a panel discussion seminar, which featured personal care, in-home care, and funeral planning providers. Landon gave a brief overview of powers of attorney, wills, and the importance of having estate planning documents in place.
In October, Jenna Franks, Esq., and Kristin Daugherty, Certified Medicaid Planner™, discussed levels of care during a panel seminar at Toftrees Golf Resort, in State College. Attendees learned the pros and cons of living at home, when to explore out of home care, how to access care, how insurance pays for various levels of care, and the importance of planning ahead. Personal care, memory care, and skilled care providers served on the panel.
On Nov. 6, Landon and Tammy Zilske, Certified Medicaid Planner™, gave a basic introduction to the process of planning ahead for your second half of life. They explained when you should begin planning, which documents you should have in place, and how trusts are used to protect your assets from long-term care costs.
Julie, Jenna, and Landon presented at the PA National Association of Tax Professionals conference, held in State College. The tax-focused seminar highlighted current changes in tax law with an emphasis on taxation of trusts, taxes that influence special needs planning, and creative utilization of financial products and strategies to achieve tax goals.
On Nov. 9, Jenna presented at the PSEA pre-retirement conference, held at the Ramada Inn, in State College. Jenna explored some of the legal tools that are available to successfully plan for a rewarding retirement.
Brittany O.L. Smith, Esq., attended the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) Summit, held in Washington D.C. NAELA provides elder and special needs law professionals an unparalleled opportunity to learn, discover, and succeed in their field of practice.
Julie held an Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care training on December 4, at The Elder & Special Needs Resource Center, in Williamsport. This training was beneficial for those who were eligible to pursue certification as a Certified Dementia Practitioner and wanted to enhance their dementia education. Julie covered a variety of topics including sundowning, wandering, hoarding and paranoia, combating caregiver stress, and managing aggressive behaviors.
Jenna and Kristin emphasized the peace of mind and protection that comes from organizing your estate affairs and pre-planning for long-term care costs. They explained the greatest gift you can give your family is to make sure you have your legal documents in order and a plan in place for your second half of life.
