How Trusts, Retirement Accounts and Taxes Affect Estate Planning in Podcast Episode 46
When you're doing your estate planning, chances are your qualified retirement accounts such as IRAs and 401(k)s and taxes are big considerations as far as how you structure your estate plan. Depending on your situation and goals, a trust may be appropriate for you. Taxes, qualified retirement accounts and trusts are the emphasis of the Second Half of Life Podcast episode 46, as the founding shareholder of Steinbacher, Goodall & Yurchak, Julie Steinbacher, discusses everything one would need to know about planning for the second half of life, with a particular emphasis on those three items. She begins the episode by talking about the foundational documents that everyone should have, such as Wills and Powers of Attorney, and goes into some more detail about the different types of POAs. In the second half of the episode, she then discusses trusts and their objectives, IRAs and other qualified retirement plans, as well as taxes and how those should factor into retirement planning and potential planning for long-term care, and estate planning.

In October, several virtual seminars were held on a variety of aging-related topics. Attendees logged on to Zoom from the comfort and safety of home to learn essential estate planning tips for their second half of life. Among the topics discussed were tricks to beat death & taxes, strategies for managing a healthcare crisis, and community resources available to aid in the care of a loved one who has been diagnosed with Dementia.
Steinbacher, Goodall & Yurchak collaborated with Nittany Brokerage to host multiple “happy hour” virtual meetings during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. These informal events featured speakers Jenna L. Franks, Esq., and Kristin Daugherty, Long-Term Care Planner, Certified Medicaid Planner™, and allowed individuals to ask their estate and long-term care planning questions from the safety of home while sipping on their favorite glass of wine or other beverage.
Types of Long-Term Care Explained in Podcast Episode 45
What if an unexpected health crisis suddenly hits you or a family member, resulting in a need for long-term care? Do you know your options? How will you pay for it? In the Second Half of Life Podcast episode 45, our two all-star long-term care planners, Kristin Daugherty and Tammy Zilske, discuss the different levels of long-term care and what each entails, as well as how each is or can be generally paid for - though each individual situation certainly varies - and which ones are eligible to be paid for by Medicaid benefits (not all of them are). Kristin and Tammy are two of only about a handful of Certified Medicaid Planners in all of Pennsylvania, and they work with clients each day on qualifying for Medicaid in these types of situations. If you or a family member anticipate requiring long-term care at some point in the future, or even if you don't but want to be aware of your options should something unexpected happen down the road, this episode explains everything you'll need to know.
