SGY in the Community - Fall 2020
Each quarter, members of the Steinbacher, Goodall & Yurchak team routinely particpate in community events. Here's a summary of the various activities that SGY representatives took part in during the fourth quarter of 2020 (October-December).
Attorney Jenna Franks presented at the Pennsylvania State Education Association’s Central Region Pre-Retirement Seminar, held virtually on select Saturdays in October. Jenna discussed the importance of having estate planning documents in place and how you can protect your assets with different types of trusts. Attendees gained a better understanding of all the estate planning documents needed for a successful second half of life.
Kyle Hetner, Seminar & Communications Manager, and Beth Herzog, Legal Assistant, carved a jack-o’-lantern for the first annual pumpkin carving & decorating contest hosted by Comfort Keepers of Central PA. It was quite fitting for 2020 that the final pumpkin design was complete wearing a COVID mask! Voting occurred online via Facebook.
All Powers of Attorney Aren't Created Equal in Podcast Episode 44
So, you have a Power of Attorney. First of all - what kind of POA is it - financial, healthcare, living will, mental health, or all of the above? What is in it? How long ago was it drafted? Have any of your personal circumstances changed since it was originally done? If you can't answer all of these questions, it may be time to review your POAs, because if there are critical components missing, it can greatly affect someone's ability to carry out the wishes of an incapacitated loved one. We see this in our practice more often than we'd like to, and it can affect our ability to help both parties. This could potentially lead to long and expensive legal proceedings involving the courts. In episode 44 of the Second Half of Life podcast, long-term care planner Tammy Zilske explains more about the importance of having good quality POAs, and the possible consequences of having out-of-date or incomplete POAs, or none at all.
All episodes of the Second Half of Life Podcast can be found on the Steinbacher, Goodall & Yurchak website, as well as on most podcast directories, which includes Apple Podcasts, Spotify, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, Stitcher, Podcast Addict, Google Podcasts, Podchaser, Deezer, Listen Notes, Bullhorn, Overcast, Pocket Casts, Castro, Castbox, Podfriend, Player FM, Podcast Index and Pandora.
